The much anticipated third Test between India and Sri Lanka wasn’t off to a great start as rain played spoilsport on the first day and the play was further called off due to continuous rainfall.

After winning the toss, the Sri Lankan skipper Angelo Mathews chose to bowl first after seeing patches of grass in the wicket. The pitch did offer some assistance for the Sri Lankan fast bowlers as they exploited the conditions well. Dhammika Prasad strikes very early with the second delivery in the very first over with an incoming delivery which shattered the stumps. The delivery from Prasad left KL Rahul clueless as he shouldered arms to a delivery which pitched outside off stump and went on to hit the stumps. The newly promoted no.3 batsman Ajinkya Rahane’s stay at the crease was also very short as he lost balance to a full-length ball which trapped him in the pads and was going to hit the middle and leg.

Pujara who opened the innings looked a bit uncomfortable at the crease but was good enough to stay on the crease along with the skipper Virat Kohli. Kohli was lucky to survive as the Wicket Keeper shelled an easy catch.

Pujara was not out on 19 with 2 boundaries, while the skipper Virat Kohli was not out on 14 with two boundaries before rain played spoilsport.

Brief Scores: India 1st innings 50/2 (Pujara 19*, N Pradeep 1-16)
