The 5 match ODI series between India and West Indies starts from the 8th October.  The inaugural match will be held at the Nehru stadium in Kochi. This will be a day-night encounter. The pitch at Kochi has mostly favoured the batsmen in the past so it is expected that we can be up for a run feast. India had a great ODI series against England in England recently while on the other hand, West Indies thrashed Bangladesh in their last ODI series.

The Indian squad, led by Mahindra Singh Dhoni is quite a balanced squad. Also, this series will hold valuable importance in the selection of the primary team for the World Cup to be held early next year. Rohit Sharma has not yet recovered from his injury and thus will miss the series. So, we will get to see Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane opening the innings for India for another time. The opening pair has been quite successful in England. Also, this series will surely be targeted by Virat Kohli. He has been out of his nick for quite sometime now and will be thriving to get back to scoring ways. Also, the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja will be the key middle order batsmen for the team. The bowling department is pretty much unchanged. Mohammad Shami has to bowl well in this series to retain his spot in the national squad. Also, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Mohit Sharma will hold the keys. Ravichandran Ashwin has been rested from the squad and his place is taken up by leg spinner Amit Mishra. Kuldeep Yadav has been included in the squad and he has a chance to prove his talent.

The West Indian side will be led by Dwayne Bravo. They will surely look to find some winning ways to boost their confidence. Chris Gayle has been left out from the squad due to an injury and surely his injury has put them in backfoot. They do possess some great talent in the batting line up in the likes of Darren Bravo, Dwayne Smith and Leon Johnson. Leon Johnson had a good series against Bangladesh. Also, Lendl Simmons has been in good touch for Mumbai Indians in the Champions League T20. Dwayne Smith is having a rough patch and missed out to score in the CLT20. They also possess the all-round brilliance of Ande Russell, who has been in prime form in the CL20 and also in the Caribbean Premier League. Kieron Pollard makes a comeback to the international squad after being inflicted by an injury. They also possess some quality fast bowlers in the likes of Ravi Rampaul, Keimar Roach and Jerome Taylor. But none of them did manage to bowl incredibly well in their past series. The spinning department will be led by left arm spinner, Suleimann Benn. The squad does possess talent and has the potential to give stiff competition to India.

The first ODI will be crucial for both the teams as both teams would love to start off things with a victory. India is ahead of the West Indian squad and it can be predicted that India should win the first ODI.
