A popular Indian newspaper made a highly critical error in one of their published articles after as they mentioned the name of former Pakistan wicket-keeper Rashid Latif in a piece detailing the spot-fixing scandal which has erupted in the Pakistan Super League.
The ambitious T20 league, based on the model of other successful leagues like the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Big Bash League (BBL) was rocked by the spot-fixing controversy after Pakistani cricketers – Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif – were exposed for their wrongdoings. The duo has been provisionally banned for their act and a strict investigation by the PCB is expected on the matter. Fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan also is under scrutiny but nothing against him is confirmed yet.
The News.pk, however, found out that the name of Khalid Latif, the 31-year-old left-handed opener, was mistaken with Rashid Latif, the former Pakistani veteran of 37 Tests and 176 ODIs. The news article, which was based on an interview by Shoaib Akhtar, had Rashid’s name goofed up not once but twice – the first mistake was in the subtitle and the second time in the main structure.
Rashid, in fact, has been one of the most well-known crusaders against the fixing menace which has hit Pakistan in past on several occasions. As stated, the wicket-keeper batsman was the first one to blow the whistle on match-fixing when he exposed his teammates for being allegedly involved in match-fixing during Pakistan’s tour of South Africa and Zimbabwe in 1995.
