This morning, as soon as Team India won the toss, millions of the fans were very happy as their very first wish was granted. Then, Team India got a reasonably good start. When the things moved in a positive direction, even the unforeseen and unfortunate run out of Rohit Sharma did not prove to be a big shocker as Dhawan continued his impressive stint and played a responsible innings.
Also, De Villiers displayed an excellent piece of fielding in Sharma’s direct hit run out. Perhaps, everything was destined as the quick fall of Kohli – a real big shock – was somehow absorbed by the responsible batting of Rahane.
It is also seen that the fielding of South African team was not quite up to the mark today. Contrary to all the predictions that South Africa is far ahead in all the arenas that is batting, bowling and fielding, the Team India played in a most responsible manner as one integrated unit and were able to put an impressive score of 307 for 7. Only three of the 7 Indian batsmen, that is Dhawan (137) Rahane (79) and Virat Kohli (46) scored enough to give a competitive target.
In reply, displaying a glimpse of tight and controlled bowling, the Indian bowlers held the innings together and only F du Plessis could cross the mark of 50 runs with his contribution of 55. South Africa got all out for just 177 runs in 40.2 overs and India won the match by 130 runs. The Indian fielding was really very impressive from very beginning. Obviously Shikhar Dhawan became the Man of the match.
The main highlight of the match happens to be the wonderful bowling by our so called weak Indian bowlers. R Ashwin the lead spinner showed his skill of utilizing spin in a most fruitful manner as is evident from his bowling figures. He bowled 10 overs, giving just 41 runs and took 3 very important wickets with a good economy of 4-10.
Likewise, Mohammed Shami gave away mere 30 runs, bowling 8 overs and taking 2 wickets. Here he proved to the most economical bowler of the day with the economy of 3.75.
In fact, most of the former Indian captains’ right from Gavaskar to Dada, Laxman to Rahul Dravid and many other experts had opined that given the confidence gained out of impressive victory over Pakistan, the morale of Team India became very high and they can spread the magic. Also the rest provided in between proved very useful.
With this particular victory, our boys have regained their rhythm and they just need to maintain the momentum and spirit to fulfill the dream of millions of the fans. The name of the game is self esteem, confidence and off course, the will to prove. The myth that our bowlers cannot strike good in the bouncy pitches has been successfully broken. This will go a long way in the journey of the Indian cricket.
