Former India captain Kapil Dev, on Monday has opined that although the country’s World Cup squad lacks experience, they can certainly fill the void with their energy and commitment.

Although the veterans like Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Gautam Gambhir are not the part of the current squad that will defend the World Cup title in Australia and New Zealand later this month but a lot of Youngsters have been included in the squad. A large number of the supporters of the game were expecting at least Yuvraj Singh to be a part of the squad but the selectors were not seemingly impressed.

Veteran Kapil Dev, who was the hero of India’s first World Cup triumph in 1983, while remembering the seniors who were part of  the 2011 World Cup said “If you see the 2011 World Cup winning squad, there are a lot of big names missing. They lack experience as compared to the 2011 squad.”

He further analyzed and said “However, this team has the energy and enthusiasm. They have the fighting spirit. That will hopefully take them ahead.”

The renowned all-rounder also emphasized that it’s not experience but commitment that will decide the winners of the World Cup. He concluded “Every time you go onto the field, you strive to do better. During a match, commitment makes the difference.”

Most of the supporters of the game do believe that although the competition is tough out there but given the vital exposure recently gained by the team India, the chances are pretty good.
