Former Indian wicketkeeper Kiran More feels that India’s success in Sri Lanka will depend on how the bowlers perform. The Indian batting has been performing well in Australia with Virat Kohli leading the way, Murali Vijay batting brilliantly as an opener, KL Rahul who hit a century in his fourth Test kept the Australians on their toes. The bowlers did not perform and that is why India lost the series 0-2. Kiran More feels that bowling should worry Virat Kohli the most in Sri Lanka.
It is really tough to beat Sri Lanka in their own backyard. India has struggled on Sri Lankan pitches. India start their Sri Lankan tour with a warm up match on 6th August before the first Test begins on 12th August at Galle. More said that Indian need not worry about their batting in the subcontinent but the bowlers must take 20 wickets in the match that holds key to the success. Kiran More said that batting really looks solid. It is the bowlers who have to work hard and get wickets which has been lacking in the Indian bowling line up.
The fast bowling department needs to click. The spinners like Ashwin, Mishra and Harbhajan will do well as the conditions will help the trio and can create impact in the series. India has not won a series in Sri Lanka since 1993. It has been 22 long years since India has won a series as the pitches in Sri Lanka are quite similar to India. More feels that Sri Lanka is bit down on confidence after losing the test series against Pakistan giving India a fair chance of winning the series.
Sri Lanka is a dangerous side at home. In the recently concluded test series Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 2-1. They are not in good form. The tour will be first real test for Virat Kohli captaincy since he has been appointed the captain in Australian series and it will his first series as captain in full test series.
Indian bowlers need to work together as a unit and put the pressure on the Sri Lankan batsman. Kumar Sangakara will be playing his final test series.
