Injured Rohit Sharma Out Of India Squad For First Two Tests vs England

The Indian team will be without the services of their middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming home Test series against England. The Mumbai batsman will remain on the sidelines for around six to eight weeks after getting injured (thigh strain) in the final ODI of the recently-concluded series against New Zealand, that India won 3-2. Media reports also suggest that the swashbuckling batsman might have to go under the knife.

After being severely criticised for his dismal performances in the longest format of the game, Rohit finally came good with the willow in the three-match Test series against New Zealand. He was the fourth highest run-getter in the series with 238 runs with three half-centuries. Things were finally looking good for him in the white jersey but this injury will be a big setback for him.

Sharma is not the only notable absentee from the 15-man squad for the Test series that was announced on Wednesday. Openers KL Rahul and Shikhar Dhawan have also been left out of the squad after they failed to recover from their injuries that they sustained in the Test series against New Zealand. In their absence, the selectors have pinned their hopes on veteran opener Gautam Gambhir.
