Chennai Super Kings, the team that is surrounded by controversies regarding the IPL Spot Fixing issue had a mixed day at the 2014 IPL Auctions. Chennai Super Kings went into the auction by retaining 5 players which includes MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Dwayne Bravo. Out of the 60 crores allotted for each team, CSK went into the auctions with just 22 crores n hand. The remaining 38 crores were spent on the players retained. Adding to the purse, the yellow brigade had a Right to match option. Let us see how the Super Kings fared in the auctions:

Players bought by Chennai Super Kings:

Chennai started the Auction on a successful note as they used their Right to match card for South African Faf du Plessis. They even won the bragging rights for Jacques Kallis just to see their Kolkata counterpart using their Right to Match card. Then Chennai Super Kings signed two dashing opening batsmen in Kiwi Brendon McCullam and West Indian Dwayne Smith. Since then, Chennai franchise almost disappeared from the scenes.

After a long gap, Chennai Super Kings accounted for Indian pacer Ashish Nehra followed by last year’s emerging talent Mohit Sharma. But the signing of the day for CSK came when Stephen Fleming and co bought Aussie pacer Ben Hilfenhaus who can lead the bowling attack. Apart from these players, CSK also bought Kiwi rookie pacer Matt Henry and West Indian leggie Samuel Badree.

What’s in store for CSK Tomorrow?

Chennai Super Kings are forced to buy a minimum of three players for 2.9 crores INR. Lack of money might be one of the reason why CSKL failed to avail the services of their Mr. Dependable S. Badrinath. They can have a go at him tomorrow after the end of auctions and will look to sign him for his base price i.e. 1 crore.

Apart from Badrinath, Chennai will look to buy some uncapped players. It is likely that CSK will look to sign Young sensation Baba Aparajith who had a tremendous domestic season. K.B. Arun Karthick, Anirudha Srikanth and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan may also get a look in into the CSK side for IPL 7.
