IPL 2016: Gujarat Lions vs Kings XI Punjab – Player Ratings

The 28th match of the season saw two sides with contrasting fortunes locking horns against each other at Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
While Gujarat Lions were sitting at the top of the table with 6 wins in 8 matches Kings XI Punjab were languishing at the last position in the table.Gujarat Lions were looking to consolidate their position at the top while Kings XI Punjab were looking to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Gujarat Lions skipper Suresh Raina elected to bowl first after winning the toss. His bowlers proved his decision right as they restricted KXIP batsmen to only 154. But then KXIP bowlers and especially Axar Patel produced their best performance of the tournament as they
dismissed the Gujarat Lions for only 139 to help their team register their second win of the tournament.

1.Murali Vijay: 3.5/5

Led from the front in his very first match as captain. Scored a responsible fifty to take his team to a decent total.

2.Marcus Stoinis: 2.5/5

Was looking good with the bat and was hitting the ball nicely but failed to capitalise on a good start. Also bowled an economical quota
of four overs conceding only 23.

3.Shaun Marsh:1/5

The team was banking on him to post a good total but was dismissed for only 1.

4.Glenn Maxwell:0.5/5

Disappointed once again with the bat and was out for a duck.

5.Gurkeerat Singh Mann: 0.5/5

Promoted up in the batting order but could not capitalise on it and was run out for 0.

6.David Miller: 2.5/5

Made a useful contribution towards the end but was dismissed at a time when the team needed him to score some quick runs.

7.Wriddhiman Saha:3/5

Scored a quickfire 33 to help his team cross the 150 mark and post a respectable total.

8.Axar Patel: 4.5/5

Was dismissed without scoring but made up for it by his superb bowling performance. The left arm spinner took the first hat-trick of this IPL. He took four important wickets and conceded only 21 runs from his four overs.

9.Mohit Sharma:4/5

Dismissed the dangerous Dwayne Smith and Suresh Raina early on to set the tone for his team. Took three wickets to turn the match in
favour of his team.

10.Cariappa: 3/5

Bowled three very economical overs to keep the pressure on Gujarat Lions’ batsmen.

11.Sandeep Sharma: 2.5/5

Had an average day on the field as he could not take early wickets and was quite expensive.
