Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Lions – Match in Numbers

Gujarat Lions were playing they are first away matched in IPL whereas Mumbai Indians were back on their home ground after a win in Eden Gardens against KKR. Lions won the toss and chose to bowl, keeping the dew factor in mind. To leave all factors behind, this is the first match of IPL 2016 that has finished on the last ball.

Mumbai Indians coming in to bat first managed to score 143 at the loss of 8 wickets. After a slow and disappointing start, it was the lower order of Mumbai Indians that helped the team to reach a respectable total.

What looked like an easy chase for the Gujarat Lions line-up wasn’t that easy as expected. McCullum departed early and captain Raina also couldn’t hold on much as he fell for a bouncer yet again. But one person who looked solid throughout was Aaron Finch, he stayed calm on the one side as wickets fell on the other. He also scored his third consecutive fifty of the tournament. He ensured that the team crossed the line.

Bowlers of Mumbai Indians bowled really well to create a panic in the Lions dug-out, but extras coming at the wrong time made a low but difficult total easier to reach for the Lions. Bumrah and McClenaghan bowled well and picked up important wickets and controlled the scoring rate as well. However, in the end, they were at least 10-15 runs short.
