IPL 2016 – Top 5 Bowlers

In the years gone by, T20 cricket has often become a batsman’s game. The biasness in the game has shifted tremendously in favor of the batsmen and with rules maligning bowlers to a massive extent, the bowlers feel like an alienated breed. In order for any cash rich T20 league to be effective, it is essential to maintain the balance between bat and ball.

Considering the perspective of having an ideal balance between the two aspects, IPL 2016 was a very satisfying affair. In the recently concluded edition of the IPL, viewers witnessed some mind boggling batting displays and Virat Kohli’s performance for example, seemed to be the ideal batting demonstration. Nevertheless, fans were also fortunate to witness some fine bowling performances from some truly talented individuals. It was these special bowling performances which made IPL 2016 a memorable affair.

Below, we have a look and analyze the top 5 bowlers from IPL 2016.

  1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar:

Despite enduring a dreadful start to his campaign against the Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kumar roared back to form in some serious style. In this particular campaign, fans witnessed a rejuvenated Kumar, who was equally effective with the new ball and at the death. With the new ball, Kumar struck quite frequently, and at the death, his yorkers were simply on the money. It was no surprise that with 23 wickets, he was the proud holder of the coveted Purple Cap. His economy rate of 7.42 was pretty acceptable as well.

  1. Mustafizur Rahman:

Just behind Bhuvneshwar Kumar is his partner in crime and teammate Mustafizur Rahman. The Bangladeshi pace sensation was the find of IPL 2016, as watching him go about his task at the death was simply a joyful experience for any cricket lover. With Rahman at the death, the Sunrisers were guaranteed of defending even a low total, and they exactly did that in their game against Rising Pune Supergiants at Vizag. Rahman’s delivery to castle Andre Russell was surely the ball of the tournament where the Jamaican was floored. 17 wickets at an economy rate of just 6.90 surely makes Rahman the most valuable bowler for any franchise to have.

  1. Yuzvendra Chahal:

Chahal has undoubtedly been the best bowler for Royal Challengers Bangalore since the last few years. The leg spinner had another fantastic edition and due to his exploits in the IPL, he was rewarded with a place in the Indian squad for the tour of Zimbabwe. Chahal played just 13 games, but managed to pick up 21 wickets at a more than acceptable economy rate, considering he bowled a lot at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Chahal was outstanding as he shouldered the responsibility to be effective even during the slog overs. His use of variations such as the googly remains an example for all budding wrist spinners.

  1. Dhawal Kulkarni:

2016 was definitely the best edition for Dhawal Kulkarni. The Gujarat Lions pacer, like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, was way too good with the new ball and at the death. Along with fellow seamer Praveen Kumar, Kulkarni formed a fine bowling partnership. With 18 wickets in 14 wickets at a respectable economy rate of 7.42, Kulkarni has made a solid case for himself. His performance in the first qualifier against Royal Challengers Bangalore was easily the best bowling display in the entire tournament.

  1. Chris Morris:

His team might not have made it to the playoffs, but Morris surely was the best all rounder of this particular season. Morris’ injury dented the Delhi Daredevils adversely and that was witnessed as in his absence, the Daredevils looked pale with the ball. Morris picked up 13 wickets in the tournament and was a genuine asset for the Daredevils. The South African blossomed under the free flowing leadership of Zaheer Khan, as he bowled with serious pace and intent, which troubled a lot of batsmen.
