There is no one else to blame other than their own players after the Kolkata Knight Riders squandered off their chance of qualifying in the top two.

Two derailed chase against Kings XI Punjab and one against the Mumbai Indians meant that the Gautam Gambhir-led outfit found itself lingering at the fourth spot and just about managing to qualify for the playoffs. Thanks to just making it, the side now faces a do or die clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Bangalore.

Keeping in mind their poor chasing record off late, where the batting order hasn’t made a lot of sense, the Knight Riders will be under immense pressure.

One can expect Gautam Gambhir to be back at his designated opening slot alongside the deadly Chris Lynn. The move to use Narine as an opener should be over by now and wiser heads must prevail for the two- time IPL champions to advance further.

PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER:

Fans witnessed an absolute masterclass from Sunrisers captain David Warner when these two sides last met on the 30th of April. Riding on Australian’s devastating 126 off just 59 deliveries, the Sunrisers amassed 209 in their own backyard and made it a night to forget for the Knight Riders’ bowlers.

Chasing a steep total, the visitors seemed to be in contention with Robin Uthappa looking good and well set. However, once he was dismissed, the chase went nowhere and Sunrisers ended up winning the game by 48 runs to register a morale-boosting win.

Recent form this season:

SRH: W, W, L, L, W

KKR: L, L, W, L, L

Talking Points:

Having lost the services of the consistent Chris Woakes owing to national duty, the Knight Riders need the experience of Trent Boult at all costs. By his own standards, Boult has been way too below par this season and there is no better opportunity than the eliminators to leave an impression. Against his former IPL side, Boult’s new ball burst against the dangerous David Warner will be matched The batting order must be properly sorted for the crucial clash.

The batting order must be properly sorted for the all-important clash and if they are chasing, then that becomes even more significant. With Chris Lynn expected to open, Gautam Gambhir should be his partner with Robin Uthappa in at three. Considering his impressive run off late, Kuldeep Yadav would be persisted over Piyush Chawla.

KKR Predicted XI:

  1. C. Lynn 2. G. Gambhir (c) 3. R. Uthappa (wk) 4. M. Pandey 5. Y. Pathan 6. C. Grandhomme 7. S. Narine 8. K. Yadav 9. U. Yadav 10. A. Rajpoot 11. T. Boult
