IPL 2017 – Best XI From All The League Matches

Like all the other previous editions of the IPL, this time around as well there has been plenty to talk about. Be it the emergence of young Indian talent or the veterans impressing like they always have, the season has been a host to some memorable moments. One thing that has received mixed responses, however, has been the fact that the regularly expected names haven’t quite lived up to the expectations.

The seasoned campaigners such as Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, Ravindra Jadeja, Rohit Sharma have been huge disappointments as personally, they haven’t quite set the arena ablaze. Nevertheless, that has presented an opportunity for other individuals to prove their skills at the highest level.

With the season witnessing some spectacular performances, below, we have a look at the best XI of IPL 2017 till the league stage.

  1. David Warner – 604 runs

Warner has been an IPL stalwart now and his name has been among the leading run-getters for quite a few seasons now. Ever since he moved into the Sunrisers Hyderabad, his batting form has peaked and his game ascended to the very next level. This season as well, the pocket dynamite was the leading run-getter and with an impressive tally of 604 runs including a sensation 126 against Kolkata Knight Riders, Warner finds himself at the top of the list. He is also the captain of this particular team given his astute tactics.

Hashim Amla
  1. Hashim Amla – 420 runs:

Not many anticipate someone as calm and subdued as Hashim Amla to feature in the best XI of a T20 tournament, but the South African legends get there with his ever-stylish approach to batting. Being the fulcrum of Kings XI Punjab’s batting this season, Amla was superb as he amassed two fine centuries while opening the innings. With 420 runs in just the matter of 10 innings, at an average of 60 and strike rate of 145.83, Amla has just communicated with some mind boggling numbers.

  1. Suresh Raina – 442 runs:

There is a precise reason why everyone refers to Suresh Raina as “Mr IPL”. The Gujarat Lions captain, after two mediocre seasons, made all his critics eat the humble pie, with a memorable season. Amassing 442 runs in 14 games, Raina is till now the fourth highest run-getter for his team. The southpaw got three half centuries and reminded everyone that despite not being in the scheme of things for the national side, he still has the zeal in him to be a top competitor.

Robin Uthappa
  1. Robin Uthappa – 386 runs:

One has to feel bad for Robin Uthappa, as he missed two games due to a niggle at a stage when he was probably in the best form this season. With 386 runs to his name this season in 12 games, Uthappa was once again a top performer for the Kolkata Knight Riders. In 12 innings, Uthappa made an incredible 5 half centuries, which signifies how consistent he has been throughout for his team. The right-hander will be crucial to his side’s chances in the playoffs.

  1. Rishab Pant (wk) – 366 runs:

Undoubtedly the best wicketkeeper this season, IPL 2017 was just the platform Rishab Pant needed to take his career to the very next level. The 20-year-old left-hander decimated the bowlers just for fun and was the most positive aspect about the Delhi Daredevils. With a strike rate of 165.61, Pant was a very lethal batsman as when he hit, the ball often was seen disappearing into the stands. After such a phenomenal season, fans would just be hoping to see more of Rishab Pant in the years to follow.

Ben Stokes
  1. Ben Stokes – 316 runs and 12 wickets:

By far the player of this season, Ben Stokes turned out to be a perfect value for money for the Rising Pune Supergiant. Scoring 316 runs in 12 games and taking 12 wickets, including some at vital moments in the death, Stokes was a revelation for the IPL as a brand. His displays included a resilient century against the Gujarat Lions at Pune.

  1. Axar Patel – 15 wickets and 227 runs:

Scoring more runs that Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers this season, along with picking up 15 wickets, Axar Patel was by far the least spoken about member in this IPL. Game after game, the southpaw churned out some crucial performances for Kings XI Punjab and was a complete impact player. A lot of Patel’s knocks were the difference between wins and losses as his clean hitting was impactful. Along with that, picking up 15 wickets at a miserly economy rate of 7.54 was another plus.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar
  1. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 25 wickets:

For the second year in a row, Bhuvneshwar Kumar is bound to end as the leading wicket taker. With 25 wickets in 13 games, Kumar was the bowling spearhead for the Sunrisers Hyderabad. The swing sensation took wickets in all scenarios as apart from being superb with the new ball, Kumar was quite accurate at the death. An economy rate of below 7 is another instance of him being a perfect match winner for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

  1. Sandeep Sharma – 17 wickets:

A major reason behind Kings XI Punjab doing well this season was pacer Sandeep Sharma who was quite terrific with the new ball. Picking up 17 wickets in 13 games, Sandeep made a strong case for himself with some marvellous performances. His side might have missed out from qualifying for the playoffs, but Sandeep surely made it a memorable season for himself.

  1. Imran Tahir – 18 wickets:

Initially unsold at the auction table and then later emerging as the best spinner in the tournament, the veteran Imran Tahir made it clear that he was a force to reckon with in this format. Tahir was pretty accurate for the Rising Pune Supergiant and the go-to man for his skipper Steven Smith during the crucial moments. 18 wickets in 12 games for a spinner at an economy rate of below 8 is quite commendable indeed.

Making Afghanistan’s foray in the IPL, teenage spin sensation Rashid Khan was a pillar of success for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
