IPL 2017: Chris Gayle Apologises To Fans For RCB’s Disastrous Season

Following a disastrous performance both by his as well as the team in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, Royal Challengers Bangalore star Chris Gayle has issued an apology to the fans.
The Royal Challengers have endured a torrid time in the ongoing IPL season. The finalists of last year were the first team to bow out this season and have been shoddy in all departments. With just a couple of wins in 13 matches so far, the Virat Kohli-led side has looked a pale shadow of the team that had blown away almost every team that came in their way last season. To make the matters worse, one of their key players- Chris Gayle also looked out-of-form throughout the season.
Ever since joining the franchise as an injury replacement in 2011, Gayle has had enjoyed good success with the bat in almost all the previous seasons. However, this season his team’s poor performance has coincided with his.
His first and only significant contribution in IPL 2017 is a 38-ball 77 against Gujarat Lions by 21 runs in Rajkot. The knock not only helped the Royal Challengers to get back to winning ways but also made Gayle the first batsman to bring up 10,000 T20 runs. But the 77-run knock was preceded with scores of 32,6, 22 and was followed with scores of 7,8,0,0. So, out of 13 matches that the Royal Challengers have played so far, Gayle has played only 8 matches, scoring a disappointing 152 runs at an average of 19.
Disappointed with the dismal performance, the hard-hitting batsman from Jamaica apologised to the fans who supported the team throughout the tournament without bothering about the results.
“I cannot be happy with my performance and with my team performance as well. It’s been disappointing,” Gayle told ANI.
“Apologies to the fans. We all are hurt. It’s amazing how they (fans) still come to stadium and support us. I hope to do better next year,” he added.
Gayle, meanwhile, will have a chance to help his team bow out of the tournament on a good note by leading them to a morale-boosting win when they take on Delhi Daredevils in their last game on Sunday (May 14).
