IPL 2017 – We Didn’t Bat Well – Rohit Sharma

For the Mumbai Indians, their game against Sunrisers Hyderabad was a minor hiccup, as the side endured a batting failure which eventually resulted in a defeat.
Batting first on what seemed to be a two-paced wicket assisting the spinners, the visitors were rocked early when Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi got rid of opener Lendl Simmons at the top.
Nabi continued his good work throughout and gave away just a miserly tally of 13 runs in his four overs. Despite a superb half-century from Rohit Sharma, the men in blue could only manage a paltry 138 on board. Sunrisers, despite losing skipper David Warner early had no hesitation in chasing down the total, as Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten half century.
Post the loss, Rohit admitted that the team’s batting was poor indeed.
“The batting went wrong tonight,” said Sharma. “138 was too less on that wicket. We knew the wicket wasn’t easy but we got nowhere near a good score. Sunrisers bowled well and kept us guessing. We just wanted to try something different by batting first today, and it didn’t pay off. I think batting second was much easier, but 138 is too less.”
“We just wanted to try something different and it didn’t pay off. We have two more games left. We need to regroup as soon as we can and try to turn it around. We need to turn it around. Batting second was so much easier. If you don’t take wickets, it’s always to be hard,” he added.
Sharma however, went on to praise his India opening partner Shikhar Dhawan for his half century.
“Shikhar batted really well. It’s a great eye-opener as to what we need to do when we bat first. Toss is in nobody’s hand. We could be put to bat first. Today was a great lesson for us,” Rohit said.
