IPL 2017: Five Players Who Can Replace Murali Vijay In Kings XI Punjab Squad

With Murali Vijay out of Indian Premier league (IPL), Kings XI Punjab might feel a bit of pressure as Vijay is a big match player who has shown his fortress in the big matches in past. Along with that, the form in which he was during the home season, he would have liked to continue the same form in the shortest format of the game but an injury ruled him out of the league.

The franchise has to supersede him with someone who can fill in Vijay’s boots. The player should not just be an aggressive one but should also have the ability to be at the crease for long.

One thing is to be noted that the Punjab-based franchise can just purchase an Indian player as they already have 9 overseas players in their roster, which is the maximum limit.

So they have to get an Indian player, who can just come in and get the job done.

Here are five players who can be the best replacement for Murali Vijay –

Faiz Fazal

Faiz Fazal – One of the best options to replace Murai Vijay in the squad is Faiz Fazal, the man who made his ODI debut last year against Zimbabwe. Fazal, a former member of Rajasthan Royals can be brought to bring stability in the team as though his T20 strike rate show a number of 104.22 but he has the ability to muster some quick one and twos at the start, which can provide the team with a good start.

Fazal has a base price of 30 lakhs, which might also suit Kings XI Punjab’s pocket, which benched three players last year mid-way season. Fazal can be one of the ideal replacements for Vijay in Kings XI Punjab franchise.

Cheteshwar Pujara – The Test specialist, Cheteshwar Pujara, should be the best man in place of Vijay. His strike rate may be 105.18 but again, Pujara is a batsman who can establish a strong base right at the start.

He can bring that solidity and stability into the team, which many of the teams lack whenever they lose quick wickets at the start. In addition to it, Pujara’s ongoing form can be the thing which can go in his favour.

Unmukt Chand – Once deemed to be the next big thing in Indian cricket, Unmukt Chand went unsold in the IPL auction and him getting no buyers was the biggest surprise as though he does not have a good record in IPL, but many franchises have always punted on him in order to keep a young face in their franchise.

Going unsold in IPL auction came as a double blow for Chand, as just days before the auction, he was dropped from Delhi squad as well. Chand being added to the squad will not just add freshness to Kings XI Punjab squad but will give a chance to Chand to kickstart his career once again.

Prithvi Shaw – A young gun in the domestic cricket, Shaw had a great start to his domestic career as he became the first Mumbai cricketer since Amol Muzumdar to score a century on his Ranji debut. In the big final, he showed that he is a player of a different class as he with innings of 71 and 44 in the final against Gujarat, grew in stature on that day. Though Mumbai failed to retain the Ranji Trophy but Shaw showed a glimpse of many great players in those two matches.

After going unsold in IPL auction, he will be looking to play the big league and it’s also an opportunity for this franchise to get a young face in the team.

Mohit Ahlawat – Mohit made noise at the right time as just two weeks ahead of IPL auction, he smashed 300 runs in a T20 game in just 72 balls comprising of 36 sixes. He was straightaway called for trials to Delhi Daredevils camp but still went unsold on the auction day. There might be a case when Kings XI franchise might call this aggressive batsman in the team.

On the other hand, it will be the best present for Mohit who achieved an unimaginable record.
