IPL 2017: Gujarat Lions Bowler Nathu Singh Ruled Out Of Remainder Of IPL

Nathu Singh, the Gujarat Lions fast bowler has been ruled out of the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back injury. Nathu suffered the injury in the home game against Kings XI Punjab and did not play a game after then.

The tall pacer currently is the most economical bowler in the ongoing league with an economy rate of 3.75. However, he had just played two games before going down to an injury.

An injury to him is a big blow for the team, keeping in mind his mentioned record and poor show by Gujarat bowlers in the previous game against Delhi Daredevils, where they failed to defend a target of 209.

This was Nathu’s second stint in IPL, as he was the part of the Mumbai Indians franchise last year. Mumbai spent a total of 3.2 Crore to acquire his services but he did not play even a single game for them and was later released. In this year’s auction, his selling price dipped down as he was sold for 50 Lakhs to Gujarat Lions.

He sat out for the first few games but once given a chance, he shone for the team. An injury to him came at the wrong time and now he finds himself out of the league.

Nathu Singh came into limelight in the year 2015 when he made his first-class debut in the Ranji Trophy 2015/16 against Delhi where he bowled a spell of 87/7 in the second innings which impressed the selectors and within three weeks of his first-class debut, Nathu found himself drafted in the Board President’s XI squad against the visiting South African team, as chief selector Sandeep Patil spotted a spark in him.

He was given an extra rope in the Deodhar Trophy and was also given a place in the India Red squad for the first ever Pink ball Duleep Trophy game played last year. Despite oodles of chances, the pacer failed to grab the attention of the selectors again and now he is not in the ‘Special List’ of selectors.

He performed well in the two games and was looking good to attract the attention but injury has now come as a disappointment for him.

Nathu is not the only player from Gujarat franchise to be ruled out, as along with him, Brendon McCullum, their opener has also been ruled out of the T20 league due to a hamstring injury.
