IPL 2017: It Was Disappointing To Lose The Game: Chris Lynn

At 78 for one in the tenth over with Chris Lynn and Gautam Gambhir in the middle, Kolkata Knight Riders were well on course to chase down Kings XI Punjab’s 167-run target.

But the match turned on its head once debutant Rahul Tewatia dismissed Gambhir and Robin Uthappa in a space of three balls.

Manish Pandey, who came in next, struggled to play his usual game but Lynn ensured that his team remained in the hunt by finding the occasional boundaries. The equation finally came down to 44 runs from the last four overs- an easy task considering that Pandey and Lynn were still at the crease.

But with the Kings XI bowlers bowling a disciplined line, it was going to be tricky. However, the duo’s dismissal off successive deliveries of the 18th over put the game in Kings XI’s side and they went on to win the match by 14 runs in the end.

Speaking after the match, Kolkata Knight Riders star Chris Lynn expressed his disappointment after his side made a meal of the chase. The Australian batsman had scored 84 runs from just 52 balls with the help of eight fours and three sixes but the lack of support from the other end ensured that his knock goes in vain.

“It was disappointing to lose the game like that. We had got very close to the finish. It was a challenge batting in such conditions and it would have been great to have won the game. We would like to look at the upcoming games now, take some rest and come back strongly. We would want to win them in order to make it to the playoffs,”  said Lynn at the post-match presser.

Lynn further said the dot balls in the five overs after the powerplay played a big role in deciding the outcome of the match. The Knight Riders were 61 for one after six overs but managed to collect just 21 runs for the loss of two big wickets in the next five.

“We were in control of the match after the powerplay. We collected a lot many runs in the powerplay. But the dot balls between the sixth and the 11th over dented our run-rate. We could not capitalise in that period and lost our way,” said Lynn.

He also had a word of praise for Kings XI bowlers.

“We failed to rotate the strike which hampered our progress. Credit goes to the Kings XI Punjab bowlers too, the way they bowled after the powerplay speaks highly of their talent. Me and Gautam (Gambhir) were cruising along nicely when Rahul Tewatia got him out,” he said.

The Knight Riders batsmen have struggled to get going in the last few matches but Lynn insisted that his teammates are doing well but it was just a bad day at the office for them.

“It is not that our batsmen are not putting efforts. Gautam, Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa Sunil Narine are all chipping in. It was just not our night. We got quite close but lost in the end,” added 27-year-old Lynn.

The two-time IPL champions will next play Mumbai Indian on May 13 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
