IPL 2017 Match 11th, Kolkata Knight Riders v Kings XI Punjab – Kolkata Knight Riders Predicted XI

Kolkata Knight Riders will be hoping to get their act together and bring their campaign back on the winning track after their loss to Mumbai Indians. KKR did nothing wrong in the two games that it has played in this edition. Their bowling, especially in the death overs, has been under scrutiny but they still make up a formidable side.

The challenge, however, is set to get stiffer tomorrow. Facing an unbeaten Kings XI Punjab will not be easier for them. The opposition looks fully rejuvenated side under the attacking leadership of Glenn Maxwell and wears a slightly different look this season. Therefore, KKR has to show a bit more intent when they face this inspired looking lot of player in the upcoming game.

Previous encounter:

It was in the 32nd match of the IPL 2016 when these two teams last met in the league. The match ended in Kolkata Knight Riders’ favour as they won the match by 7 runs with the help of all-rounder Andre Russell’s spectacular bowling effort.

Batting first, the KKR posted 164/3 on the board with both openers – Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir – registering half-centuries. The score could have been much bigger but KXIP somehow manages to restrict Kolkata Knight Riders from going kaboom.

In response, Morne Morkel and Russell Jolted the top order badly, removing both the openers Murali Vijay and Marcus Stoinis along with Manan Vohra inside three overs. Vijay, who was leading the Punjab side, was able to make only 6 while Stoinis, a surprise opening option and Vohra were dismissed for ducks.

Glenn Maxwell did some damage control with 42 balls 68-run knock. However, his efforts went in vain after KKR managed to get rid of him at a crucial stage just before the final four overs. The other names like David Miller and Gurkeerat Singh in the lower order could not pull off the chase as KSIP had to settle for a narrow loss.

Recent Form:

Kolkata Knight Riders’ recent form is one win out of the two matches this season. They lag behind their next opposition in terms of current form. The only point bothering the will be their bowling during the death overs. They would still rue the fact that they lost the match despite being in a winning position. Saving the match from defending 60 runs in 24 balls would have been a fairly easy job. But, they failed to contain the ‘livewire’ Hardik Pandya and the opportunity slipped away in no time.

Kolkata Knight Riders will have to deal with a bit more dangerous threat tomorrow –Glenn Maxwell. He is batting in fairly good form and played a winning role in both the matches. KKR needs to mend it poor death bowling if they wish to win otherwise the script of the upcoming match would be same as it was against Mumbai Indians.

Talking Points:

Trent Boult has looked like a misfit in the team so far and replacing him seems like the only good option at the moment. Gambhir must experiment to find a solution. Boult has single-handedly conceded the most number of runs for KKR in the last two matches. The left arm fast bowler can a good new ball bowler in all three format on his day, but using him in the final overs seems illogical.  They have good options like Rishi Dhawan and Rovman Powell in the squad and swapping Boult with one of the men can be a good experiment.

Chris Lynn’s availability is in doubts, in fact, his future in the IPL for the remainder of the season is under dark clouds. Lynn hurt his right shoulder and aggravated an old injury while fielding against Mumbai Indians. He showed wonderful form, scoring an unbeaten 93 and 32 respectively in the last innings.

Sheldon Jackson would be a great replacement although he stands miles away from being as good as Lynn. However, Jackson is a very trustworthy name who carries both the attacking and defensive approach. Lynn’s absence would also mean Uthappa will back to the top of the batting order and will open the innings with Gambhir.

Here is the XI:

Gautam Gambhir, Robin Uthappa, Manish Pandey, Sheldon Jackson, Yusuf Pathan, Surya Kumar Yadav, Chris Woakes, Rovman Powell, Sunil Narine, Kuldeep Yadav, Ankit Rajpoot.
