May 6, 2017 at 11:59 AM
Delhi will eye for two points against the table toppers Mumbai Indians when they clash on Saturday to remain in the race of top four.
Having found their momentum in the business end of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Delhi Daredevils (DD) will be aiming for their third win in a row at their fortress at Feroz Shah Kotla.
DD proved they had the hunger to succeed when they chased down targets of 209 and 186 in their last two matches respectively at the Kotla but they have to be wary of Mumbai’s challenge.
Rishab Pant (97 off 43) and Sanju Samson’s (61 off 31) batting against Gujarat Lions on Thursday suddenly made Delhi look like a different side altogether. Their performance, where their 143-run second-wicket partnership set up Delhi’s win, drew praise from all quarters.
PREVIOUS ENCOUNTER:
Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Daredevils by 14 runs in their Indian Premier League match at the Wankhede Stadium. Put to bat first, DD scored 142/8. Chasing, the MI lost six wickets quickly but Chris Morris and Kagiso Rabada kept them in the hunt before they ultimately lost the plot and thus the match.
Kagiso Rabada (44) and Chris Morris (52*) kept Delhi Daredevils in the hunt with a 91-run partnership for the seventh wicket but the visitors ultimately fell short.
Jos Buttler top-scored with 28 while Kieron Pollard (26) and Hardik Pandya (24) were the only batsmen to get some runs in otherwise disappointing innings for MI.
But their bowlers, especially Mitchell McClenaghan (3/24) engineered a stunning comeback before Rabada and Morris’s resistance.
