IPL 2017: Players Involved In Most Number Of IPL Match Victories

If winning is a habit. The players we are about to discuss have been quite addicted to the habit over the years.

The IPL no ordinary league. Speaking in simple words – it’s a grand affair with a popularity as huge as any ICC event. Therefore, the achievements made on this stage holds the same importance as it is in other formats and events.

In the past 9 seasons, a total of 585 matches have taken place (including the SRH v RCB opening game of the IPL 2017) and fans have witnessed a plethora of players showcase their skills.

The ultimate goal is to win matches and that is what every team and their players thrive for. Similarly, winning remains the most sought after things but only a few taste it on a consistent basis.

Here in this piece, we discuss the players who are among the handful of players who have been a part of the winning sides for the most number of times.

The upcoming list is dominated by Indian names with Suresh Raina, the former CSK all-rounder and the current skipper of Gujarat Lions, hold the top position. The southpaw has been part of the victorious side 88 times in his IPL career which has seen him make a record 147 appearances. He totally deserves the top spot in every sense having led his teams Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions to many spectacular wins as a batsman in the past.

The players occupying the second place is the charismatic former India skipper MS Dhoni. With two IPL trophies and four appearances as runners-up, he is arguably the greatest captain to have played in the IPL in its history. Dhoni has been at the forefront of all these dominating efforts which has resulted in him winning 83 matches in 143 matches. All these wins have come with him as the captain.

Attacking Baroda star Yusuf Pathan stand at the third position. He has been a part of three-time IPL winning sides (One with Rajasthan Royals in 2008 and two with Kolkata Knight Riders 2012 &  2014). Speaking in a nutshell, he has primarily played the role of a player who sets up victories for his team. The wins would have been impossible without his vital contribution with the bat in the lower middle order. He has had a flawless IPL career spanning 134 matches with 77 wins under his belt.

The ‘talented’ Rohit Sharma is the player following Yusuf Pathan with 76 wins in his IPL career so far. Rohit, who began his IPL career with Deccan Chargers as one the most promising talent is now the two-time title-winning skipper of Mumbai Indians (2013 &2015). While he has been extraordinary as a player, a good chunk of wins have come while leading his side. A total of 34 as captain to be precise.

Gautam Gambhir, the mercurial Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, also have a spot on the list of most successful players. Gambhir has been a vital cog in the KKR setup, leading them to great success as a skipper and as an opening batsman. In all, Gambhir has been a part of the winning side 75 times in the 134 matches he played ever since making his IPL debut with Delhi Daredevils in 2008.

Ravindra Jadeja and Dinesh Kartik are the last two names sitting on the list with 74 and 73 wins respectively. Both the players, who are currently teammates in the Gujarat Lions team, have had an illustrious career in the IPL. Jadeja started with by winning the IPL title with Rajasthan Royals and later moving to Chennai Super Kings and amplifying his reputation as a match winner by helping CSK win the title two times.

Kartik has a humble story comparatively. He was a part of the Delhi Daredevils unit in the first three seasons of the IPL and later was signed by Kings XI Punjab at the Player Auction 2011. His best time in the IPL came when Mumbai Indians snapped him before IPL 2012. He spent two seasons with them and experienced his most successful time in the league at that time before moving to RCB in 2015.
