IPL 2017: Players To Watch Out For From All Eight Franchises

It’s been ten long years since the inception of IPL, the league which was ahead of its time, as believed by many. It revolutionised cricket in many ways, it brought the charm, it brought the crowd, it brought players from all countries to play under the same roof and most importantly it gave cricket a new life.

Twenty-20 was just six years old by then, the newest format as it was termed. In 2008, eight franchises representing different states were formed and the format for IPL was laid down. Thanks to them, many newcomers could leave a mark right from the outset. Over so many years, came a plethora of talent, some faded, some became global superstars. In every season, many new faces tend to stand out, fight through the obstacles and reach the top.

Like last year, Delhi Daredevil’s Shreyas Iyer was one of the finds. Though, a known name in the domestic structure, the youngster caught the attention of few critics by the end of the tournament. Apart from him, Mumbai Indians all-rounder Krunal Pandya, brother of Hardik Pandya, made his presence felt too. Not too fancy a batsman or bowler to look at, he was though effective.

So, after nine consecutive years of glory and success, the VIVO IPL has returned and will commence from April 5, giving an ocean opportunity to many known and as many unknown players to make their name. At Sportzwiki, we bring you one player from each of the franchise to look out for.

1.  Rashid Khan (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan will be a player to look out for in IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It’s not too bad to start with the defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The side which has the right blend of talented players, both rookies and experienced, has shown what determination can do by beating favourites Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in last year’s final.

Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan, a newly recruited leg-spinner has found his home in IPL at SRH dugout. The 18-year-old, who was bought for four crores in the auction is an exciting prospect. Good with his wrist turners and even better with his googlies, he can trouble any batsman on a Hyderabad track, which is likely to assist spinners.

Getting a chance to play under the eyes of great Muttiah Muralitharan, Hyderabad’s bowling consultant, Rashid would only improve and with age on his side, he’s got all the time to make right noises in the cricketing world.

2. Tymal Mills (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

England’s Tymal Mills will be the bowler to look out for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the tenth season of IPL.

To pick a standout player from the star-studded side of IPL, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is possibly the toughest task. They have got Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and Ab de Villiers to talk about, but in the forthcoming season, there is someone who could give anyone of them a run for their money. He’s England’s bowling speedster, Tymal Mills.

Bought for whopping 12 crores in the auction, Mills is not new to the cricketing audience. Having to made his name in the T20I series against India early this year, he had people talking about him, and his pace, devastating one. He bowls above 90 mph, a scary speed and even has a back-hand slower ball as a substitute.

What can trouble more are his yorkers. Hitting the bottom of the bat in a fraction of seconds can uneasy any batsman, even the finest of them.

3. Jason Roy (Gujarat Lions)

England’s Jason Roy will be crucial for Gujarat Lions in the IPL season 10.

Included last year only, franchise Gujarat Lions (GL) have had a great first season, finishing third in IPL-9. They had some big boys like Brendon McCullum, captain Suresh Raina and all-rounder Dwayne Bravo. But for the following season, they purchased an opener, many rate him the best, England’s Jason Roy.

Conventional in his outlook with a smooth back-lift, not having a wild-stride, composed and beautiful in his timing, the Sussex batsman could well turn the IPL on his head. Given he has got some challenge for the opening slot with Aaron Finch and Dwayne Smith, the 26-year-old is expected to eclipse them, at least on his current good form.

Known to provide blistering starts for any side, Roy will be crucial to Gujarat’s maiden win if they tend to persist with the batsman and give him time to get in.

4. Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians)

Rohit Sharma will be important to Mumbai Indians squad after returning from injury.

Two-time champions Mumbai Indians will have their hopes lying on shoulders of the captain Rohit Sharma. The India international was out of action for nearly four months now before getting some match practice in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

An important cog in any wheel, Rohit is enough to steal the spotlight even with his presence. A class apart batsman, elegant in style and a game changer, Rohit would certainly be the player to watch out for. Having played cricket all over the globe and almost against everyone, Rohit knows what it takes to bag trophies.

Though, a decent leader, considering his IPL success so far, Rohit needs to do some homework before stepping onto the field and to get back his mojo.

5. Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Sunil Narine will once again be Gautam Gambhir’s trump card in IPL season 10.

The uncanny, mysterious offie from West Indies is yet to be discovered, even after playing for four years in the lucrative league. He was, he is and until he stays with Gautam Gambhir’s Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) side, he will their trump card. Be it a flat deck, a dusty one or a green one, attacking him comes last on the opposition’s list.

He doesn’t spin the ball much, he hasn’t it done it over the years, but he sticks to an unplayable line and length. He bowls quick at times, he deceives batsmen with many of his variations and if for once found by any of the batters, he is smart enough to bounce back in the very same over.

It’s like a norm in the game that his four overs are kept aside and the batting team concentrates more in hitting the other bowlers. Though he has been a bit out of touch lately, he will find no time in getting back to his best.

6. Kagiso Rabada (Delhi Daredevils)

South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada will be Delhi Daredevils front-line seamer in the upcoming season.

The most looked forward fast bowler in the world now, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada made headlines as soon as he was picked by Delhi Daredevils in the auction. For the cost of five-crores, Rabada strengthened DD’s bowling department with already having Zaheer Khan and Mohammad Shami in the line-up.

Rabada would be lethal and maybe the player of the season for them. His race pace, high-arm action, fine tuned death bowling and yorkers make him the better among all.

Knowing it his first season, Rabada would like to be the top star and cement his place as the next big thing in cricket.

7. Marcus Stoinis (Kings XI Punjab)

Marcus Stoinis will be Glenn Maxwell’s go to man in the tenth season of IPL.

Australia’s all-rounder Marcus Stoinis will be Glenn Maxwell’s go-to-man in the forthcoming season of IPL-10. Stoinis, who played with the Kings last year also made some fans out there. He has been a consistent performer for the Baggy Green and for the domestic side also.

The hard-hitting batsman has had a share of success during the Chappell-Hadlee series after he notched up 146 against New Zealand in Auckland. An equally efficient bowler, Stoinis can be useful in the four overs he will be given. Carrying the decent pace, the Australian could come in handy for the Kings and help them lift the IPL trophy for the first time in so many years.

8. Ben Stokes (Rising Pune Supergiants)

The richest buy of IPL-10, Ben Stokes will surely be someone to look out for Rising Pune Supergiants (RSP).

The million-dollar baby, England’s Ben Stokes will have all eyes on him for Rising Pune Supergiants during the IPL. Purchased for a whopping price of 14.5 crores, Ben had to be the one to look out for. He’s young, athletic, fast and powerful, and that what matters. If it doesn’t fit the criteria, then his ability to win matches on his own would surely fit.

Dominant with bat and ball at the same time, Stokes has an experience of playing in different leagues across the globe. His participation in the league would lift the spirits to next level as the franchise would look to turn the tables around after a torrid inaugural season, where they finished last.
