IPL 2017: Rahul Dravid Made Me A Better Player Of Spin, Says Sam Billings

England recruit batsman Sam Billings revealed that Indian Premier League franchise Delhi Daredevils mentor and Indian Under-19 coach Rahul Dravid has helped him to become a better player of spin bowling during his stint with the Delhi-based outfit.

The 25-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Billings expressed his delight while stating he has made a significant improvement since joining Daredevils in the ninth edition of IPL which has also availed the services of veteran Dravid.

“He (Rahul Dravid) is one of the best to have played the game. So their is lots to learn from him and even from Paddy. It is always a great experience to pick their brains. It is a huge honour actually. You are always learning from people of that stature,” Billing was quoted as saying by PTI.

In 2016, the right-handed batsman Billings played five matches before returning to the action for Daredevils against Royal Challengers Bangalore. So far he has amassed 113 runs at an average of 22.60.

“There is no doubt that in the last one year, the improvement (I have felt in my game) has been the biggest of my career. Getting to know your game in different conditions is always a learning experience,” Billings said.

Billings stated one always looks forward to improve their game they’ve been a player before adding he had played quality spin bowlers to prepare and eventually learn while spending some quality time during the lucrative league.

“Playing quality spin for six weeks (in the IPL), you learn a lot out of that. Anyway you are always looking to try to improve and perform. Of course, the schedule is hectic,” Billings added.

Billings also revealed Daredevils head coach Paddy Upton has been at the forefront to help youngsters while praising spin duo in the form of Shahbaz Nadeem and Jayant Yadav.

Billings also expressed his disappointment over losing their opener of the IPL 10 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, adding the unit is focusing on their second game against Rising Pune Supergiant in Pune on April 11 (Tuesday).

“We are focused on the next game now. There are lots of positives to take from the previous game. Every team is strong in this competition, all have power hitters and quality spinners. But if we turn up to play to our potential, we can beat any team,” Billings further added.

However, Daredevils has a good fast bowling attack spearheaded by Zaheer Khan as Chris Morris bolsters the bowling attack, according to Billings.
