In the past two games, Mumbai Indians side looked like a weak team, as they first lost a home game against Rising Pune Supergiant and then went to tie their next contest against Gujarat Lions, from a state where they were the favourites to win the game.
Though they won it in the super over but it was not the win that everyone was expecting.
On Monday, they looked in touch, as the new table toppers got back their form and went on to seal a clinical win over Royal Challengers Bangalore. Though the win came on the penultimate delivery of the game but still, the win should be termed as clinical as the target was also not a short one.
The good news for them was that Rohit Sharma once again shone for the team, as he played a match winning innings of 56* to lead the side to a win from the front. He stayed there till the end of the innings to see his team getting past the winning total.
After the win, skipper said that despite climbing the top of the table, the team is not looking to shrug off their approach and will look to continue the same way as he said –
“We always knew the wicket was good. We could always get to the last over and finish it off. We always wanted to keep wickets in the hand. Overall clinical performance. We bowled and batted pretty well. We won it in the last over, but I’ll take that win. Very important in this format to keep taking picking wickets. That is something we’ve been doing in this tournament. It keeps the batsmen guessing. Very happy with the way we have come out and performed in the last few games. We want to finish games in a clinical manner and that’s what we did today. Always good to spend time out in the middle. I’m feeling good. It was just a matter of spending time out. I pick my areas and back myself. You get value for your shots. You need not hit the ball hard. Finding the gap is important. We want to do that (finish top). We want to be ruthless in our approach. The tournament doesn’t end here. We have to stick together and play as well as a team which we have done so far.”
