IPL 2017 – We Were Sloppy With The Ball And In The Field – Glenn Maxwell

Things look a tad delicate now for the Kings XI Punjab after they found themselves on the wrong side of the road at Mohali against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Needing a win to rise up in the points table, skipper Glenn Maxwell looked to keep things simple by carrying on the trend of chasing. It didn’t take long for everyone to realise that the move boomeranged quickly as Shikhar Dhawan and David Warner bulldozed their way in the powerplay.
Contrary to his form this season, Dhawan finally came out of his shell as his rapid half century at the top propelled the Sunrisers to a healthy total. After a few lusty blows from Punjab debutant Martin Guptill, the hosts were in for some trouble in pursuit of a total in excess of 200.
Shaun Marsh tried his best in the middle order but the struggling Eoin Morgan just added more pressure on him. Once the Australian was dismissed, however, it was just a mere formality as the Sunrisers won by 26 runs.
Post his team’s loss, Glenn Maxwell admitted that the target was manageable and not that tough. “It was chaseable. We were sloppy with the ball and in the field. We bowled either side of the wicket,” Maxwell said. “There were a few soft dismissals in isolation.”
The Victorian was in complete awe of his countryman and fellow Australian Shaun Marsh, who has been with the Kings XI Punjab since the very first season. “If you put together it looks bad. Marsh was absolute class; he was striking the ball beautifully. He has done it for Kings XI for 10 seasons. It is a quick turnaround for us. At least we will be at home and turn up next game,” said Maxwell.
