IPL 2017: Steven Smith Heaps Praises On Bowlers For Superlative Win

Rising Pune Supergiant, in the do or die game against Kings XI Punjab, defeated their opponents to qualify for the next round and mark the end of Punjab’s journey in the tournament.

The stage to win the game was set by the Pune bowlers who provided early jitters to Kings XI Punjab, which wrote a script for visitors who just managed a total of 73 on the board. The fast bowlers made use of early advantage and scalped quick wickets, which was the deciding factor of the game.

Chasing a mere target of 74 was never going to difficult for Pune unless Punjab would have been able to emulate their performance against Delhi and that was not the case, as Rising Pune Supergiant chased the target and the won comfortably to stage an easy victory and to pour water on the hopes of Punjab, as the before this game, the side needed to win their three remaining games and they had won last two.

A win in this game would have opened the door for the next round but it was Pune who made most out of the toss and the home advantage.

With this win, Pune has now booked their place in the first qualifier against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede stadium. The winner of that game will play the final of May 21 and loser will get one more opportunity to get an entry into the summit clash.

Here is what winning captain Steven Smith said after the game –

Steven Smith:

“It was a nice day. Everything went according to plan. The bowlers did a decent job. Does not happen every day that you reduce a team to 73. It was an easy decision to bowl today, the wicket was a bit sticky. The bowlers did a terrific job. Shardul was just fantastic and then Unadkat. Obviously, it was our second year in the tournament. We wanted to get the balance right. We had some new guys coming. We have got a couple of options that we can talk about. It is going to be a big loss. Stokes has been a big name. But hopefully, guys can step up.”
