IPL 2017 – Suresh Raina Still Hopeful Despite Back To Back Narrow Losses

If you are a Gujarat Lions fan, then the probability of something disastrous happening to you is just due to a minor error, is very high indeed.

That has been the precise tale of the Suresh Raina-led outfit, as two narrow losses have been witnessed by the team. A couple of days after the team stood second in the super over against Mumbai Indians, another heart-breaking loss awaited the side in Pune.

Defending a moderate total of 162, the Lions were well over the Supergiant at one stage after the hosts were reduced to 10-3. At 42-4, Ben Stokes and MS Dhoni collaborated for what turned out to be the most resilient stand of the tournament so far.

The English all-rounder eventually got his team to victory in the final over and brought up a mighty fine century. Post the loss, Lions skipper Suresh Raina wasn’t too pessimistic and hoped for a quick turnaround.

“We played really well,” Raina said. “Last over we did not bowl well. Probably the dew was there. Credit goes to Stokes, he batted really well. He took his chances and played really well. He knew that we did not have power in the spin department. We were 25-30 runs short, still, we played well. We kept losing wickets and did not have wickets in the end. We were all out in 19.3 overs,” said Raina.

“Sangwan and Basil set up the game for us up front. Stokes was hitting well. He was hitting clean and all those big sixes. We were only one wicket away there. We have got 4 games to go. We are putting our effort in the bowling and fielding department after 6-7 games. Still, we need to take responsibility in the batting department too. Hopefully, things will turn our way,” Raina added.
