IPL 2017: Team With The Strongest Indian Contingent

The Auctions are over and the franchises now have their full squad ready. Fans are now waiting for the real action to unfold. Almost all the franchises struck a good balance between the domestic and the overseas men.

With only 4 overseas players allowed at a time in a starting XI, it is the domestic names who carry the bulk of the responsibility. Therefore, while it may seem fancy to have huge foreign names in the squad, the strength of any franchise remains in the capability of India contingent it possesses.

So, here in this article, Sportzwiki tries to evaluate five teams with the strongest India contingent.

Royal Challengers Bangalore:

RCB unarguably has the strongest bunch of Indian names. Virat Kohli’s presence alone adds huge weight to the squad. He is undoubtedly the most valuable player in the country. The second biggest name it has is KL Rahul. The right-hander, who has cemented his place in the national side after last year’s IPL antics, is the best opener in India at the moment. The other prominent names it has include Kedar Jadhav, Sachin Baby, Yuzvendra Chahal, Stuart Binny and Pawan Negi. While these players might not have the same amount of star power, they are superb talent capable of producing match-turning performances. Apart from these they also have young talented ones like Mandeep Singh, Sarfaraz Khan and Avesh Khan; all of these names are highly promising names who will likely play for the country in the future.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad has a total of 16 Indian players in its squad which has a strength of 25. The SRH can proud itself of having the best Indian bowling talent with them. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra and Barinder Sran were the top contributors in SRH’s title-winning run last season.

The addition of more talented players like Mohammad Siraj and Abhimanyu Mithun adds more variety. In the batting department, Shikhar Dhawan and Yuvraj Singh are the biggest stars they have in their unit. The presence of Eklavya Dwivedi, Tanmay Agarwal, Deepak Hooda and Naman Ojha adds more weight to the batting order.

These bunch of batsmen may have not played at the national level but are well known hard hitters in the domestic format. In all, the Indian contingent which the Sunrisers have is very exciting.

Mumbai Indians:

Mumbai Indians is traditionally known for mentoring upcoming domestic talents. A few recent example of the quality players they have produced are Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Both these players are regular fit in the limited overs Indian team.

Other than the duo, there are other young names who add firepower the side. Krunal Pandya, J Suchith, Siddhesh Lad, Shreyas Gopal and K Gowtham are some of the most prominent names in the domestic cricket.

To add a dash of experience, MI also has seasoned cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, Ambati Rayudu, Vinay Kumar, Parthiv Patel, Saurabh Tiwary and not to forget their skipper Rohit Sharma. If rated for the balance it has among its Indian contingent, MI in would certainly take the top spot.

Kolkata Knight Riders

KKR easily has the most reliable and experienced domestic batting set up among all the team that have been put on this list. Led by Gautam Gambhir, KKR has traditionally trusted in the likes of Surya Kumar Yadav, Manish Pandey, Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan. This has been the core strength of their batting order which has won two titles do far their history. The bowling department is usually dominated by the presence of spinners Piyush Chawla and Kuldeep Yadav along with fast bowler Umesh Yadav. Barring them, the bench strength includes domestic performers like Ankit Singh, Sheldon Jackson, Rishi Dhawan and Ishank Jaggi. The presence of such an Indian contingent has made them less dependent on the overseas players.

Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils lacks star Indian cricketers but has a good crop of domestic talents who are capable of taking their team ahead. The team is led by Zaheer Khan, the most experienced name in the team.

But apart from him, DD cannot count on other huge stars. However, this lacking is made up brilliantly by the presence of young promising names. Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Aditya Tare and Sanju Samson form a superb batting line-up.

All are touted to be the next generation of Indian batting, say at least in the limited over format. The presence of Murugan Ashwin and CV Milind along with Amit Mishra makes the bowling department look exciting.
