The home side Delhi Daredevils won the toss and surprisingly decided to bat first at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in New Delhi. This is a chance for Delhi to defeat Rising Pune Supergiant and act as a barrier between Pune’s playoff dreams, as a loss in this game would mean that Pune would have to win their next game to keep their hopes alive for the next round or else it will be Kings XI Punjab which will supersede this side in the top four.
Delhi had just one change, as Carlos Braithwaite, who played his first game of the season in the last match, made way for spinner Shahbaz Nadeem.
On the other hand, Pune side suffered a blow even before the start of the competition, as Imran Tahir has flown back home to prepare for series against England and Champions Trophy. He was replaced by Adam Zampa, the other leg-spinner in the side.
Pune will look to continue starting bowling with Washington Sundar from one end so as to keep Delhi under check right from the start of the innings.
It can be said that is a must win game for them, as a loss in this game will be a blow to their chances of qualifying for the next round. Talking of the conditions, the dew factor later in the second innings will play a big role in the game and it might work in favour of Rising Pune Supergiant.
Here is the playing XI of both the sides –
Rising Pune Supergiant Playing XI: Ajinkya Rahane, Rahul Tripathi, Steven Smith(c), Ben Stokes, MS Dhoni(w), Daniel Christian, Manoj Tiwary, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jaydev Unadkat, Adam Zampa.
Delhi Daredevils Playing XI: Sanju Samson, Karun Nair, Rishabh Pant(w), Shreyas Iyer, Marlon Samuels, Corey Anderson, Shahbaz Nadeem, Pat Cummins, Mohammed Shami, Amit Mishra, Zaheer Khan(c).
Here is what both the captains said at the time of the toss –
Steven Smith:
“Just one change for us as well, Imran Tahir has gone back home, we have a leg-spinner replacement in Adam Zampa. We are looking to be positive, not putting any pressure on ourselves. Looks like a dry wicket, I would have batted first as well, but I ain’t great in reading the wicket.”
Zaheer Khan:
“We will bat first. Looks like a good wicket, want to put some runs on the board. An extra spinner might be handy, so Carlos (Brathwaite) is out and Nadeem comes in. A win is a win, that’s more important, try and get as high in the table as possible. 14 points is a real possibility and we want to finish on a high.”
