Mumbai Indians have won the toss in the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League and decided to field first against Rising Pune Supergiant. This is the first qualifier of the IPL 10 and the winner will go onto face the winner of the second qualifier in Hyderabad on May 21.
Both the sides made significant changes as for hosts, they went in with four changes, mainly asking Parthiv Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Lasith Malinga and Mitchell McClenaghan to make a comeback and dropped Mitchell Johnson, Saurabh Tiwary, Tim Southee and Vinay Kumar.
Whereas for the visitors Pune, they roped in Kiwi pacer Lockie Ferguson for Ben Stokes, who has travelled back to England for the bilateral series against South Africa and later for the Champions Trophy.
Here is what both the captains said at the time of toss:
Rohit Sharma –
We are gonna field first. Looks a good wicket. Nice and flat. It has always helped the chasing side because the dew sets in nicely in the second half of the match. Whatever happened in the league stages doesn’t matter much now. We have to do well as a batting group, as a bowling group and fielding, of course, will play an important role as well. It has to be a collective performance. We have got four changes. McClenaghan, Malinga, Bumrah and Parthiv come in place of the guys that played in Kolkata.
Steven Smith –
It is a very humid night. I dare say that dew will be a factor. We will have to play well. It gives us a second chance if we don’t do any good tonight. Hopefully, we will have a good night, tonight. We have one change, Stokesy obviously has gone back and Lockie Ferguson replaces him.
