Robin Uthappa scored his second consecutive fifty while Sunil Narine set the Eden Gardens alight with a 17-ball 42 run knock, as Kolkata Knight Riders posted 187 for five against Gujarat Lions.
Sunil Narine once again came out to open the innings with Gautam Gambhir and proved it why his team is persisting with him despite having an experienced opener in the form of Robin Uthappa.
The West Indian blasted nine fours and a sweetly-timed six of just 16 balls to help his team race to 44 in just three overs before mistiming a Suresh Raina delivery to be dismissed for 42.
The run-rate came down after Narine’s dismissal but Gambhir and Robin Uthappa shared a 69-run partnership off 49 balls to lay the platform for a good total.
The partnership was broken when Gambhir was dismissed by James Faulkner for 33. Uthappa and Manish Pandey then took the innings forward but were finding it tough to hit the boundaries. The duo added 54 runs before Uthappa was dismissed by Praveen Kumar for 72.
The Gujarat Lions bowlers managed to pull off things towards the end and conceded only 46 runs in the final five overs but the home side still managed to post a good total due to Narine’s quickfire knock.

Narine is on 42 off 16. Gauti is on 2 from 2. We've all been in relationships like that 😄😄 #KKRvGL
