IPL 2017: Unveiling the Mystery Of New Ticker On The IPL Scorecard

The cricket world has always amazed us with the new methods and technologies. IPL was no different. Over the years, it came up with unique methods for displaying scores and player statistics during a match. It gets easier when every player and score details pop up in front of your eyes every now and then.

All the other information such as bowlers’ delivery speed, economy rate, the number of overs, required and current rate etc. flash regularly below the team scores. However, in this tenth IPL edition, the broadcasters came up with a unique idea of applying tickers of red and green colour under the scorecard.

So people came up with all new thoughts on this new inclusion. Some thought it might depict the pace of a bowler ranging from very fast to manageable to slow. Some thought it might be the timing of the shot or the strike rate of the batsman being displayed.

On the basis of close view and the help of the commentators, finally, the fans got hold of the flowing and baseless thoughts about the red or green tick.

Recently, when Mumbai Indians were chasing a mammoth score of 230, they understandably took their time to settle in and thereby were under the required run rate. To which Danny Morrison made a comment about the ideal place for the ticker to be in and that would be on the green side.

Also once Sunil Gavaskar explained during a second innings that the red light for the chasing team depicts danger and once the required run rate becomes less than current it shows green.

The meter is only displayed during the second innings of the match. The bar is divided into two halves with a yellow bar in the middle. This midpoint signifies that the team is at par with the required run rate. The left side is represented by red bars and the right side by green bars.

If we take an example, suppose a certain team has a required run rate of 8, and if that team is going with the run-rate of 6, then the meter shows red and if it’s par with the required rate like 9, the meter shows green mark which intensifies with the rate.

The number of bars keeps on fluctuating at different point of time in the game. Therefore, there is a big change in the ticker whenever there is boundary hit or there are a number of dot balls.

So, now that you have a got a clean understanding of it, no need to stress your brains upon the same, but to relax and enjoy the last few games left in the tournament.
