Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir must be cursing himself after inviting Sunrisers Hyderabad to bat first on a belter of a pitch, as David Warner blew away the table-toppers with a blistering 43-ball century in Hyderabad.
The hard-hitting Australia opener was looking in his elements right from the start and had raced to 13 off eight balls with the help of a four and six before getting a reprieve when Chris Woakes made a meal of a catch.
The visitors had to pay a hefty price for missing the opportunity, as the left-handed batsman hit the top gear right from that very point. In the next 11 balls, he hit three fours and as many well-timed sixes to reach his fifty off just 20 balls.
He continued his onslaught even after reaching the fifty-run mark and completed his third IPL fifty in just 43 balls with the help of seven fours and eight sixes.
The southpaw was looking destined to shatter records before his stunning knock came to an end in the 17th over when he mistimed a slower delivery from Woakes.
His inning ended of 126 runs came from just 59 balls with the help of 10 fours and eight hits over the rope.
His whirlwind knock has definitely stunned one and all and Virender Sehwag is no different. The former India opener, who is currently the head of cricketing operations at Kings XI Punjab, took to Twitter to praise Warner for his superlative knock.
Unbelievable stuff David Warner. Century in only the 11th over. #SRHvKKR
