IPL 2017: Fit-Again Shreyas Iyer Available For KXIP Game For Delhi Daredevils

Delhi Daredevils have received a big boost ahead of their clash against Kings XI Punjab, as young batsman, Shreyas Iyer is available for selection in the team for their next encounter.

Iyer was down with chicken pox and missed the first two games of the league. His stalemate Aditya Tare opened the innings for the team in his absence.

The news was confirmed by the leg-spinner Amit Mishra while addressing the media a day ahead of the game, Mishra said,

“He’s (Iyer) joined the team, he’s been practising with us. I think he’s available for selection. But it will depend on combinations if we can slot him in the playing XI or not. But he’s available for selection.”

However, the Mumbaikar might have to wait for his chance despite the fact that Tare failed in both matches, as Delhi pitch is known to speak in favour of spinners, which might tempt skipper Zaheer Khan to include someone like Jayant Yadav in the side, who can contribute with bat and ball as well.

In this case, Rishab Pant will open the innings along with Sam Billings, with Yadav adding strength in the lower order.

Shreyas Iyer was recently called in the Indian cricket team for the fourth Test match against Australia at Dharamsala as a backup for injured Virat Kohli.

However, he did not get a game but affected a superb run-out in the only over he came on the field as a substitute fielder.

The former Under 19 player was purchased by Delhi Daredevils in the IPL auction 2015 for an amount of 2.6 Crore. Since then, the right-handed batsman has played a total of 20 matches for the team in which he has scored 469 runs at an average of 24.68.

He had a great outing with the franchise in his debut season, as in 14 games, Iyer scored 439 runs at an average of 33.76, whereas his form dipped the very next season, where he just played six games, in which he could just manage 30 runs.

Iyer is coming from the great form in domestic cricket and will look to continue his form in IPL as well.
