Chennai Super Kings defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 5 wickets at Sharjah and with that they have completed their matches allotted in UAE. Chasing 146 to win, Chennai almost faltered in chase before their skipper MS Dhoni took them home. Dwayne Smith was adjudged the Man of the Match. Here are the turning points of the match:
Third Over of the Match:
Sunrisers Hyderabad have a strong top order with the likes of Aaron Finch, David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan. If these batsmen get their eye in, then it will be difficult for the opposition to stop the carnage. Third over of the Sunrisers innings bowled by Ben Hilfenhaus’ started to tilt the game in favour of Chennai. Big Ben’s second over saw Dhawan and Warner making a long way back to the pavilion. That made Sunrisers to slow things down as the innings progressed.
Ashwin’s spell of four overs:
Ravichandran Ashwin might not be among the wickets but he bowled superbly to keep a check at the run flow. Ashwin was the commander in chief in the middle overs as the Sunrisers batsmen found it difficult to score against the offie. That also piled the pressure on the Sunrisers batsmen to score against the other bowlers. Ashwin went on to concede just 17 in his four overs that led Sunrisers to put up a partly 145 on the board.
Chennai’s opening Partnership:
Chasing a modest 146 to win, the onus was on Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullam to give the start needed for a victory. They exactly did what the team management hoped for as the opening duo of CSK set the platform for a CSK victory by scoring 85 in just 11 overs. McCullam got out for a well-made 40 and Smith went on to score a superb 50 and was later declared the Man of the Match.
Safer side against Dale Steyn:
Even though the Chennai Super Kings openers might have been in top form, they had a certain Dale Steyn to tackle. Brendon McCullam smashed him for a six over the square leg in his second over. Apart from that, the CSK batsmen decided to play it safe against Dale Steyn rather than throwing their wickets to the South African quckie. As they would have wished, the Chennai batsmen saw off Dale Steyn who returned with a figures of 4-0-20-0.
MS Dhoni batting at the end:
After a strong start by the openers, Chennai seemed to lose its way in the middle. There was a collapse in their batting order and it was started by the fall of Suresh Raina followed by Dwayne Smith, Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja. Mithun Manhas struggled to rotate the strike in the penultimate over of the match. With just six needed of the last over, Chennai had their best man at the crease. MS Dhoni kept his cool and took his side to victory.
