Chasing a target of 186 runs, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) cahsed down the target in 20th over against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) with 2 deliveries to spare at Ranchi, Jharkhand on Thursday. Sunrisers Hyderabad achieved the target with six wickets in hand.
For SRH, David Warner yop scored with 90, while Shikhar Dhawan scored 64 runs to help SRH chase down a mammoth target set by CSK.
For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja, John Hastings, and Suresh Raina picked up wicket each, but proved too costly, especially Jadeja, against Wanrner and Dhawan. Jadeja gave away 42 runs in his 3.4 overs.
Having lost the toss and asked to bat first, Chennai Super Kings posted a huge score of 185/3 in their 20 allotted overs. The star of the show were MS Dhoni and David Hussey as the duo put together 108* run partnership for the fourth wicket.
For CSK, MS Dhoni top scored with 57 runs, while David Hussey and Dwayne Smith chipped in with 50 and 47 runs respectively.
For SRH, Karan Sharma was the lone successful bowler picking up two wickets for just 19 runs in his four allotted overs, while the third wicket to fall was a run-out.
Earlier at the toss, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Darren Sammy won the toss and chose to field first in Ranchi, in a must win match to remain in contention for the playoffs for Hyderabad based franchise. Sunrisers, who are currently sixth in the table, will jump to fifth past Mumbai Indians provided they will win tonight. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, have already booked their place in playoffs but they trail Kings XI Punjab by two points who tops the table.
Sammy did decide to bowl on a damp pitch, but MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings captain, said he would have batted first in any case, as he expects the surface to slow down in the later half of the match. The pitch for the previous game in Ranchi looked under prepared and had lot of turn for the spinners.
On to the team news now where Super Kings were forced to change make a chnage because Brendon McCullum went back to New Zealand to attend the birth of his child. Dwayne Smith will be partnered by Faf du Plessis in the opening slot vacted by the Kiwi skipper. The other change to the Super Kings line-up saw Ben Hilfenhaus and Ishwar Pandey being dropped in place of allrounder John Hastings, who was playing his first game of the season, and left-arm spinner Pawan Negi. Meanwhile, David Hussey replced Brendon McCullum.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad played the same XI which took field in the previous game where they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by seven wickets in Hyderabad.
