When the idea of T20 cricket first erupted , many experts of the game felt that this format will take the spinners out of the game. With the modern bats, thick edges and the curtailed boundary length of the field just made sure that no one could argue with the point. But little did they know of what happened.

Spinners just didnot come back with new variations to contain the batsman but picked up wickets too. The likes of Ajmal and Sunil Narine have taken the cricketing world by storm. This IPL has been the show case for the leg spinners , and more for the leg spinners.

Fast bowlers have not been to their best in this year’s IPL, and this is something not very strange when the talk is about cricket in India or sub continent. Fast bowlers don’t get enough purchase out of the wicket that they can create any havoc in the opposition batting line up. But still we have seen that the likes of Malinga , Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohit Sharma and many others , who have made some serious impact.

The likes of Steyn and Morkel were not upto their best and there are no particular reasons for that.Things don’t always go in favour of the bowlers or any player. They are legends in the making , atleast Steyn , if not both.

The other factor which makes the fast bowlers look ordinary in IPL is the death bowling.  Captains more often than not prefer the pace bowlers to bowl in the death , unless one has a mystery spinner like Sunil Narine. At this point of the game, batsman go after everything and end up ruining the figures of the fast bowler.

Now, other aspect is the white ball. With the pitch offering nothing and also there is no wind backing the bowlers, like what happens in England, whatever is on offer is with the new ball and particularly first 7 overs. Now, the captains have gone for spinners with the new balls , and this also doesn’t help the cause.

So, it is the Indian condition which is making the pace bowlers look less effective. IPL 2 was in South Africa and it saw a lot of changes in the tactics of the teams , where they went for more fast bowlers . Even the likes of Yusuf Abdulla, Juan Theron were bought , taking in mind the home conditions prevailing in South Africa.
