KKR‘s chances of lifting the IPL title for the second time has now received a severe blow as Sunil Narine has been asked to either choose betwwen the IPL final or the first Test match between West Indies and New Zealand .
The West Indies Cricket Board had earlier issued a deadline asking the selected players to join the prepatory camp by 1st of June. According to WICB’s chief executive officer Michael Muirhead , the deadline was shifted from 22nd May to 1st of June only for the players participating in the IPL.He indicated that if he misses th deadline , he will not be considered for the 1st test match starting from 8th of this month, but will be considered for the subsequent matches.
Knight Riders’ chief executive officer Venky Mysore spoke to the media on telephone and said that Narine wants to play the final as well as the series against New Zealand. The IPL management has put Narine’s case to the West Indies Cricket Board and Narine himself is in constant touch with the former Windies all-rounder and current president and chief executive of the West Indies Players Association, Wavell Hinds .
Chris Gayle was under the same situation in 2009 and WICB granted him the permission and this calls for equality and Narine should also get one.
WICB’s chief executive officer Michael Muirhead also added that Narine and Chris Gayle( who has gone to Germany for his treatment) said it before that they will be available by 1st June but then the chances of KKR was slim and no one thought them to make it to the finals.
Also, Mysore added that KKR management is making arrangement for the fastest possible way for Narine to reach the carribean lands. Narine’s presence can be decisive in the final and KKr management is well aware of that.
