BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur has hinted that atleast three companies, which were earlier in the race of bagging the rights of the ‘ Title Sponsor’ of the IPL, still wants to remain a part of this IPL. However, he didn’t make it clear if these companies were interested in buying a new franchise in the IPL, as two more teams will be up there in the coming season and the count will increase to a total of 10 in IPL 2018, once Chennai SuperKings and Rajasthan Royals comes back.
Anurag Thakur was quoted saying “We had four interested parties for IPL title sponsorship and other three (apart from Vivo) are still interested in coming on board in other ways,”.
Thakur added that though several controversies have cropped up in the IPL but these have not been able to decrease the popularity of the IPL and it still remains one of the top tournaments in the World.
When asked about the drainage system of the Eden Gardens, which saw a T20 match being called off without a ball being bowled, Thakur said that they will ask CAB to improve on this and added that he is confident that they will be able to solve the issue before the T20 World next year in India.
On Indian team’s recent ODI series, he said that it was an interesting one, though he admitted that Team India didnot do well.
