Star India which hosts the IPL in the country has announced that their new mobile app is about to break global records for viewership.
7.2 million, is the recorded viewership of the first match of this seasons IPL and is recorded at six times the viewership that the website starsports.com has recorded for the same match.
The COO of Star India Sanjay Gupta said that the digital transmission of all cricket matches hit a high in the World Cup and broke records during the match between India and Pakistan and with almost 87 million Indians using mobiles to watch these matches he said that they will do everything to keep this relationship intact.
The hotstar app that has taken the nation by storm is also a place for advertising and connecting with the game for many sponsors. It also claimed that the app which will host all 60 matches of the IPL will likely reach a viewership of about 100 million by the end of the season and that the video consumption from digital form has increase over the years.
The World cup saw some astonishing numbers with over 87 million unique users and 13.5 billion hits in the short time the World Cup ran and also registered 340 million video views. This made the 11th edition of the World Cup the highest viewed sporting event in digital all over the world.
