IPL: Five Players RCB Should Retain In Next Year’s Auction

The finalists of last year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) was expected to emulate their performance but the way they performed this year, even skipper Virat Kohli had no words to express the reason for their abysmal performance.

Everything they did and experimented went against RCB, which was the reason behind team finishing on the last spot with just three wins in 14 games. But is this performance a real reflection of the capability of players of RCB? Does this rank on the points table justify talent which Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers have? Surely not. They are still the best players in world cricket at the moment.

With talks of an open IPL auction in 2018, there are assumptions that teams will be given ‘Right to Match’ card, according to which they can retain a particular player at the highest amount he draws in the auction.

While there is still no word from BCCI regarding how many players a team can retain by using this card, here are five players who RCB side will look to get back in their team if given a chance –

Virat Kohli – The Indian skipper had a rough season this time but you have to ask yourself that can you doubt his form? Can we doubt him as a batsman? Can you doubt Kohli’s capability? Absolutely no.

Kohli will be the red hot material in next year’s auction and surely we will see him breaking all the records next year. But, all said and done, RCB will have an advantage of using the match card and today itself anyone can announce that they will be using that card in order to retain the players who they ‘ve developed over the years, right from the start of the Indian Premier league where he came in as a young boy and has now developed himself into the best player in the world.

AB de Villiers – He was not the lone player to fail for his team this season. There were many others as well. Again the question arises, it’s fair to doubt his capability? No.

Mr. 360 degree, what fans call him is a talent who is difficult to find and it is RCB camp itself where he developed these rare skills. In no case, the team management would like to lose out on a player like him, who is a gem of the game.

AB de Villiers is the other player on whom RCB will use their match card to again render his services.

Chris Gayle – When Chris Gayle went unsold in IPL auction 2011, it was a big surprise as for how could one of the biggest hitters go unsold in an auction of IPL?

Gayle was later called in as a replacement of Dirk Nannes and what happened next is history. He heaped a total of 608 runs at an average of 67.55. The following two years as well he crossed the barrier of 700 runs. From then, he had mixed seasons but also did well on occasions.

He is the biggest hitter in world cricket at moment as a touch of the bat with the ball is enough to assure that ball will fly over the boundary rope. His this ability and also the experience which he brings to the team is the key for any team as he can turn the game in his own favour from any point of time, no matter the conditions and bowlers coming in.

It will be a mistake for RCB if they let go, Gayle as they will be in a similar situation like Kolkata Knight Riders if Gayle fire shots for any other team next season.

Yuzvendra Chahal – Being purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore was a boon for Chahal as he was with Mumbai Indians from the year 2011 but got just one game. He was a sidelined cricketer in that camp but the moment RCB acquired him in IPL auction 2014 for his base price of 10 Lakh, Chahal’s life changed and he also got a national call-up withing two years of playing for this team.

He has developed himself into one of the best leg-spinners in the country in the shortest format of the game, a glimpse of which we saw in the third and final T20I against England where he bowled a spell of 4-0-25-6, which is the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler.

RCB management would again eye Chahal in the next auction if he suits their pocket, as once a 10 Lakh commodity till three years back, is set to draw Crores in next auction.

Samuel Badree – Hat-trick in his first game of the season for RCB. Enough to tell the capability of this player.

Badree possesses that bold moves as it’s not easy for a spinner to come and bowl the first over of a T20 game where batsmen are all set to go big. Badree though isn’t affected by it as he has the daring to ball short, asking a batsman to hit him. He has also found success in his plans.

Probably, RCB didn’t use him wisely this season, a mistake which they might be able to spot when they to do ‘SWOT’ analysis of this season. Badree is probably the best bowler in the T20 cricket and surely we might see the same team using retention card to again ask Badree play for them.
