The story:
Pawan Negi, who plied his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore in this year’s India Premier League, is reportedly looking to get himself an admission in Delhi University through sports quota. As per media reports, close to 13000 sportspeople have applied for the 5 percent reserved seats in the university. But interestingly, the allrounder’s name does not feature in the list of 10 players who have got the direct admission.
The reason behind that is Negi has attached the documents of Vijay Hazare Trophy along with his admission form. And with Vijay Hazare Trophy being a national level tournament, Negi failed to get a direct admission. The privilege of direct admission in Delhi University is enjoyed by only those who have represented the country at international level. Negi will now have to undergo trials along with other applicants to get the admission.
Negi finally proved himself in IPL 2017:
Negi was perhaps the sole positive for Royal Challengers Bangalore’s disastrous campaign this year where they finished at the bottom of the table.
The left-arm spinner and a hard-hitting lower-order batsman first came into prominence during his time with Chennai Super Kings. In fact, his impressive show for the Chennai-based franchise earned him a spot in the Indian team for the T20 series against Sri Lanka and inclusion in the squad for the Asia Cup and World T20.
But the most notable moment of his career came when he became the most expensive uncapped player in IPL after Delhi Daredevils bought him for a whopping Rs 8.5 crore in 2016.
However, his fall from grace was as spectacular as his meteoric rise as he played only eight matches scoring 57 runs with the highest score of 19. His bowling figures weren’t impressive as well as he went for 84 runs in nine overs picking up only one wicket before the franchise parted ways with him.
This year, he was bought for Rs 1 crore by the Royal Challengers and prove his immense potentials with some impressive performances throughout the tournament. The Delhi-born player scored 144 runs in 12 matches in addition to taking an impressive 16 wickets with an economy of a shade over 6.
