It Was An Error Of Judgement On Dasun’s Part, Says Sri Lanka Team Manager Asanka Gurusinha

Asanka Gurusingha, the team manager of Sri Lankan cricket team, has defended the young and inexperienced bowler Dasun Shanaka in ball tampering issue and has said that the bowler is very remorseful about what happened on day 2 and it was an error of judgement on his (bowler’s)part,

“It is actually an error of judgment on Dasun’s part. Just one over it happened. None of the team members knew that and it wasn’t planned or anything. He is very remorseful about what had happened. He takes full responsibility for that,” he said.

Shanaka was docked of 75% of his match fees at the end of day 2 when he was seen changing the condition of the ball. The charges were led down by the umpires and David Boon, the match referee, who fined the young pacer. He accepted the charge and hence, no official hearing was being done.

Shanaka, who has played nine ODIs and 16 T20Is, is playing his third Test match and has come under the scanner quite early in his career. However, the matter seems to be an old one now with him escaping with fine and avoiding any ban. Though three demerit points have already been added to his account and they can also be converted into a ban.

If he adds one more point in next 24 months, the points will convert into a ban, and the number of matches he will be missing will depend on the number of demerits points which he would receive.

Talking of the ongoing Test match, at the end of day three, India had gained full control by taking an early wicket of Sri Lanka. At stumps one day 3, Sri Lanka were one down for 21, still 384 runs behind team India’s first innings total.

Its now only a matter of time and it will be interesting to see whether team India wraps up Lanka batting line-up early or will the batsman be able to make the fielders toil for a while.
