Jharkhand’s Shahbaz Nadeem Hopeful of International Break After Stellar Ranji Season

Jharkhand left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has voiced his concern of being ignored again and again even after having a couple of stellar seasons in Ranji cricket.

Nadeem, who was the highest wicket-taker in the previous season of India’s domestic cricket, is doing wonders in current season also, having picked up 50 wickets in 9 matches played so far.

The left-arm spinner played a crucial role in his side’s quarter-final clash against Haryana, as he picked up 11 wickets and guided his side into the last four. What added to his benefit was the venue, which was kept neutral this time to keep away the lame home advantage excuses from the performers.

Talking about his performance, Nadeem said he his happy with the wickets but gets frustrated when his performance goes unnoticed by the top brass in the selection committee. Speaking further, he said he his optimistic about his chances of getting picked, keeping in the mind the England series, which is due to start from January 15, 2017.

“I do get frustrated, I am human too. But when you are doing well on the domestic circuit, the bowlers in the Indian team are also bowling very well. Luck is a big factor and the timing of your performance should be right. Generally, when I am disappointed, I play more matches. If I am not capable enough [to get in] I should work more. I practice slightly less, but I will play even 20 matches in a month. I play throughout the year.”

Sounding hopeful and confident at the same time, Nadeem said age is slightly on his side and if he keeps performing well, he might just get a breakthrough.

“The peak of a player doesn’t last forever but I have time. I am still 27 and if I play the same way for one or two more seasons, you never know. This is my motivation. If the door doesn’t open, I will break it open. I am right now knocking. Next time I will break it.”
