England batsman Joe Root has become the new number 1 test batsman in the World as he dethroned Australia’s Steve Smith from the top of the rankings. Root, who had an extraordinary Ashes series has rose to the top and is followed by South Africa’s AB de Villiers.
Root has 917 points to his name while de Villiers accounts for 890 points. Steve Smith, who was at the number 1 spot before the Ashes was pushed to the third spot with 884 points. Hashim Amla takes the fourth spot followed by Sri Lankan duo of Kumar Sangakkara and Angelo Mathews at five and six. Surprisingly, New Zealand’s Kane Williamson is at the eighth spot just below Pakistan’s Younis Khan. Aussie Chris Rogers takes the ninth spot and the tenth spot is occupied by the only Indian in the list, Virat Kohli with 755 points.
In the bowling charts led by Dale Steyn, Stuart Broad has found himself on the second spot followed by his teammate James Anderson in the third position. Trent Boult (New Zealand), Yasir Shah (Pakistan), Vernon Philander (South Africa), Mitchell Johnson (Australia), Rangana Herath (Sri Lanka), Tim Southee (New Zealand) and Morne Morkel (South Africa) complete the list.
In the team ratings, South Africa are still at the top with 125 points followed by Australia at the second spot. Pakistan, New Zealand, India, England, Sri Lanka and West Indies complete the top 8.
