In the latest deal, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise under fresh ownership Sylhet Surma Sixers have roped in two overseas prospects in the form of New Zealand skipper and top-order batsman Kane Williamson and England slow bowler Liam Dawson for the fifth edition of the Twenty20 which is scheduled in November.
The coordinator of Sylhet Shafiqul Islam while briefing the local media in Bangladesh revealed the franchise is hopeful to yield desired results in the upcoming BPL edition while expressing satisfaction over the fresh signings.
“We are glad to inform that Kane Williamson and Liam Dawson will take part in this season’s BPL for Sylhet,” Islam was quoted as saying by bdcrictime.
However, the fresh face was participating under the name of Sylhet Superstars in the recent past.
The newest franchise Sylhet started to induct players which include big guns prior to the start of the cricket carnival in Bangladesh after announcing Sabbir Rahman as its icon cricketer last month.
“We are excited with their signings.” Islam concluded.
Sylhet management has definitely kept the experience in mind, as the duo has the capability to swing fortunes both with the bat and the ball.
The 26-year-old Tauranga-born Williamson has featured in 116 Twenty20 matches in which he scored 2,730 runs at an average of 28.43, as he has also bagged 30 wickets with his off-spin bowling.
Williamson has also registered a solitary century and 16 fifties to his name in 108 domestic T20 innings while claiming 49 catches in the field.
On the other side, the 27-year-old left-arm orthodox bowler Dawson has already featured in BPL for its outfit Rangpur Riders.
The Swindon-born bowler has played 105 Twenty20 games in which he has bagged 156 wickets and has been handy with the bat after scoring 943 runs.
Interestingly, the competition started off in 2012 under the supervision of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) while following the different leagues across the globe like widely acclaimed Indian Premier League (IPL).

It’s pertinent to mention the team missed a season in the fourth edition after failing to pay the endorsement to the players owing to the disciplinary reasons as well in the light of Code of Conduct of the association itself.
Earlier, England duo Dawid Malan and Chris Jordan were also inducted in the squad which further include the fast bowler Mohammed Abul Hasan (Raju) from Bangladesh.
