KIXP to replace David Miller with Murali Vijay as skipper of the franchise

The Punjab-based IPL franchise, Kings XI Punjab have had a very bad start to their IPL campaign this season winning just 1 out of their 6 games so far in the tournament.

They have not been able to find consistency with the ball or the bat and have now decided to shake things up within the team.

South African batsman David Miller, who is the current skipper of the franchise is set to be replaced after a series of poor performances.

In the 6 innings, Miller has manages just 76 runs and has not helped his team’s cause throughout the season. His franchise is currently at the bottom of the table and the franchise officials have decided to replace the skipper of the team.

The hard-hitting South African bat is likely to be replaced by Indian international Murali Vijay.

The former Indian opener has been one of the most consistent players for the side this season. He has 142 runs in the six innings he has played and has also scored a half century.

This decision should not come as a surprise after seeing the way Miller has struggled to come to grips with the current season.

Coming from South Africa, he will have had to take time to even settle into the sub-continent conditions and to lead a franchise in the Indian Premier League has proven a burden that is a bit too heavy for the fierce hitter.

It is also understood that the KIXP management wanted Vijay to lead the team in the first place and decided to hand over the captaincy to Miller.

And with a forgettable start to the campaign, it is now understood that Miller will soon be replaced.

This kind of a chance in the middle of the competition is nothing new for the viewers.

A host of top class players including Gilchrist, Sangakkara, Vettori, Ponting and Mathews were all replaced as the captain of their respective franchises after poor starts.

This decision by the KIXP might come as a blessing in disguise as the added responsibility might help Vijay blossom into a consistent player as we saw in the past and can also help David Miller express himself lower down the order.

According to reports, the first game for Vijay as a skipper can be against the table toppers Gujarat Lions on the first of May at Rajkot.

Do you think Vijay can change the fortunes of the Punjab outfit?
