Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 35 runs at the Eden Gardens at Kolkata on Monday. It was an excellent performance by Kolkata Knight Riders team who dominated Sunrisers in all departments. With this win Kolkata Knight Riders has moved to 11 points and third in the points table.
While chasing a tricky total of 167 Sunrisers Hyderabad innings never got off to great start with Warner getting out in the very first for four runs. In the same over Umesh Yadav dismissed Naman Ojha to put Sunrisers in deep trouble at 6 for 2. Dhawan and Henquries tried to steady the innings but SRH lost Dhawan at the team score of 29. Sunrisers lost the 4th wicket by the way of run out. They lost the wicket of Morgan reducing Sunrisers to 55 for 4 at the end of 8 overs. At the end of 10 overs Sunrisers required run rate to win the match was climbed up to 10.50. At the end of 10 overs it was 63 for 4. They almost lost another wicket of Henquries but were safe because Bipul Sharma’s appeal was adjudged not out. Soon after they lost antoher wicket of Vihari to reduce Sunrisers to 68 for 5. Another wicket fell of Bipul Sharma for 1 to make it more worse for Sunrisers as they were reduced to 69 for 6. The last hope Henquries got out for 42 and Sunrisers were in deep trouble at 81 for 7. In the 18th over Karn Sharma hit 3 sixes in a row but got out after that reducing Sunrisers to 117 for 8. Sunrisers Hyderabad ended their innings 132 for 9. The pick of bowlers were Hogg picking 2 for 17, but the other bowlers did a decent job as well.
Earlier SRH captain won the toss and elected to field. The Kolkata Knight Riders began off to flying start racing to 41 in 4.4 overs. Both Gambhir and Uthappa played some excellent strokes to began with. Gambhir was the first man to get out. They put up a 57 runs first wicket stand in 6 overs. The best bowler for Sunrisers Hyderabad was Karn Sharma taking 2 wickets for 29 at economy of 7.25 and Bipul Sharma taking 1 wicket for 23 with an economy of 5.25.
Sunrisers will face Rajasthan Royals on the 7th of May in Mumbai where Kolkata will face Delhi Daredevils on the same date in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
