Former Sri Lankan captain, in an interview with cricket.com.au has compared current Test captain with former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. He explained that Kohli has shown a lot of fighting spirit, both as a player and a captain, since taking over the reign of Test captaincy from MS Dhoni.

Sangakkara added that the Indian team is changing under Virat Kohli and he has observed the transition among the Indian players. Players want to win abroad and then he added that Sourav Ganguly remains the only former Indian captain who taught India to win abroad. Sourav gave India that fighting spirit and the much needed motivation to visit outside sub-continent and win there, he added.

He then talked about the amount of respect Ganguly still gets across all the cricketing nations and this is all because of what he did for the Indian team. Virat has the same kind of hunger to excel, he said.

Talking about the ongoing ODI series between India and Australia, he said that the hosts will run away with the series but the victory may not come as easy as it came last year during the World Cup semi final and the tri series played before the World Cup. Australian team has a good bowling line-up and a good batting line-up as well, he said.

He added that if the Indian batsman can join the party and score runs, it will be a closely contested series. Not just Virat Kohli, but guys like Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane should step up, he said.

The 1st ODI of the series starts at Perth and Australian team has announced it’s playing 11, with two debutants in Joel Paris and Boland getting a game. Indian team us yet to announce their playing 11.
