“Kumble’s Demands Weren’t Based On Actual Numbers,” Says A BCCI Official

On the day of the IPL final in Hyderabad, the then Head Coach of Indian cricket team came up with a presentation in front of the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (COA) regarding a reformed model for the salaries of players and coaches. Kumble asked for a huge hike in his salary and also for the captain.
A presentation later revealed that Kumble demanded 60% of salary what was paid to the skipper of Indian cricket team. Along wit that, he also demanded BCCI to offer coaches a contract of 10 months, which can open an IPL window for them, during which they can work with IPL teams which will automatically give them extra benefits.
The presentation, however, was discussed after Kumble had resigned from the post and by no surprise, the demands made by Kumble have taken BCCI by a surprise, as the board thinks that the offer of Kumble was not based on the actual numbers,
“The figures he stated were not correct. He calculated figures of one year when the BCCI had to give extra money from its kitty so that international and domestic cricketers didn’t take a hit because that year the BCCI did not make substantial revenue due to very few home matches,” said an official.
Taking a closer view of it, the big demands made by Kumble can also be one of the many reasons for which he left his job just a day after the conclusion of the Champions Trophy, as it was learned that Virat Kohli was not happy with the coach proposing a hike in skipper’s salary. Sources, then revealed that Kumble also forwarded an increase in Kohli’s salary so as to strengthen his case but even before the COA could table a meeting to discuss the matter, Kumble had already resigned. We might see the successor of Kumble getting benefits proposed by the former Indian skipper.
Meanwhile, BCCI has already delayed the cut-off date to apply for the post of Head Coach of Indian cricket team until July 9. Interest candidates can now apply for the post without any pressure as previously, the presence of Anil Kumble prevented many of the former cricketers from applying for it but now, the seat is open for all without any person present at the helm.
We will surely see the apex cricket board receiving many applications as compared to the last time, on whom, the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI will take a final call upon.
